Cognitive Behavior Therapy

Cognitive Behavior Therapy emphasizes the role of thinking in how we feel and what we do. It stresses that thoughts, rather than people or events, cause our negative feelings. Cognitive Behavior Therapy is a structured collaboration between therapist and client that often calls for homework assignments. Cognitive therapy as a treatment model includes Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Mindfulness Training.

Dr. Shaffer and Dr. Sank were trained by Aaron Beck, the founder of Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Albert Ellis, the founder of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy. Dr. Shaffer and Dr. Sank are co-authors of a textbook using Cognitive Behavior Therapy with a forward by Dr. Albert Ellis.
